New Year Celebrations Continue with Fellowship and Tradition!
In Cyprus, New Year celebrations extend far beyond January 1st. and this year was no exception. On January 17th, all Nicosia-based Rotary Clubs—Rotary Club of Nicosia, Rotary Club of Kyrenia, Rotary Club of Nicosia-Ledra, Rotary Club of Nicosia-Lefkothea, Rotary Club of Nicosia-Aspelia, Rotary Club of Nicosia-Salamis, and Rotary Club of Nicosia-Sarayönü, joined forces to co-organize a delightful Cutting of the Vasilopita celebration.
This joyful fellowship dinner brought together over 100 Rotarians and guests for an evening of connection, camaraderie and tradition. Rotarians traveled from across the country—including Ayia Napa, Kyrenia, Larnaca, Limassol, and Nicosia to join the festivities.
The evening culminated with a touch of mystery: Who won the lucky coin traditionally hidden in the New Year’s pie? Despite every guest receiving a piece of cake, no one stepped forward as the winner! Ever resourceful, the organizers quickly improvised: all guests will be assigned a number, and a random drawing will determine the winner. A creative twist to end the evening on a high note!
In addition, a modest surplus from the dinner proceeds will be donated to Elikas, a small local charity that supports the operations of a home for adults with special needs.
It was truly a night to remember, filled with laughter, fellowship, and generosity, reminding us of the enduring spirit that binds Rotarians together. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead—united in service and friendship!
