Some moments in Rotary remind us who we are, where we come from, and what we are called to carry forward.
At Rotary International headquarters, as the Italian flag was lowered and the Nigerian flag was raised, Rotary marked one of these meaningful moments - the transition of leadership from President Francesco Arezzo to President Olayinka Hakeem Babalola.
Each year, Rotary leadership passes from one part of the world to another. A new country, a new story, a new voice, a new perspective. Yet the heart and roots of Rotary remains the same - Service Above Self, friendship across borders, and the shared commitment to create positive change in our communities and in the world.
This transition is a powerful reminder that Rotary is built on continuity. Every president receives the work of those who came before, carries it with dedication, and passes it forward stronger. In this way, Rotary grows, deepens, learns, and continues.
We thank President Francesco Arezzo for his leadership, friendship, and service. His year reminded us once again that Rotary’s strength lies in people who are willing to unite for good — not only through words, but through action, compassion, and trust.
As President Yinka Babalola begins his year, the message Create Lasting Impact gives us a clear and meaningful direction. It speaks not only about what Rotary does, but about what remains after we have acted: stronger communities, more welcoming clubs, deeper partnerships, young leaders who feel heard, and projects that continue to serve long after the first moment of visibility has passed.
For Zone 21B, this message has special meaning. Across our diverse districts, countries, cultures, languages, and communities, Rotary and Rotaract have the opportunity to show what lasting impact looks like when people come together with purpose. It is seen in local projects that answer real needs. It is seen in young people who bring new energy and new ideas. It is seen in clubs that open their doors wider, listen more carefully, and build bridges across generations.
The presence of Shenaya, a current member of the Youth Advisory Council from District 3192 in India, made this moment even more meaningful. It reminded us that the future of Rotary is not somewhere far ahead. It is already here — in the voices of young leaders, in their questions, in their courage, and in the ideas they bring to the table.
Leadership changes. The mission remains. And every year gives us a new opportunity to serve with more intention, to tell our stories with more honesty, and to turn Rotary’s values into visible, lasting impact.
As a new Rotary year begins, Zone 21B joins Rotarians and Rotaractors around the world in gratitude, pride, and renewed commitment.
Let us create lasting impact — together.
