In the moments before a child is born, information matters. A clear heartbeat, a careful observation, a timely decision — each of these can bring greater confidence to both medical teams and families.
The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of Dr Bratan Shukerov Hospital in Smolyan received a new fetal monitor provided by Rotary Club Smolyan. The equipment will help doctors and midwives monitor the condition of pregnant women and babies during pregnancy and childbirth.
The donation includes a T12 fetal monitor with nine indicators, a transducer for twin monitoring and consumables. According to Dr Anastasia Hadzhihristeva, President of Rotary Club Smolyan, the idea was born during the organisation of an event dedicated to women’s health. Club members believed that such equipment would support the daily work of medical professionals and bring more peace of mind to women during pregnancy and delivery.
Dr Anton Lalov, senior physician at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, emphasised the importance of fetal monitoring. A quality recording of the baby’s heartbeat helps the medical team assess the condition of the fetus and choose the most appropriate course of action. He described the monitor as a small device with enormous value for the department.
The monitor is used mainly to track fetal heart tones and uterine contractions. It also includes functions such as monitoring the mother’s blood pressure and cardiogram.
The hospital leadership expressed gratitude to the donors. In a letter of thanks, Executive Director Dr Marin Darakchiev described the donation as an act of social commitment, initiative and humanity.
