On August 14th, the Rotary Club of Athinai organized and implemented a special seaside excursion to Schinias for 35 vendors of the "Shedia" street paper. The initiative was designed to offer a day dedicated to service, fellowship, and human connection for individuals who face daily hardships with immense dignity and strength.
The Rotary Club of Athinai managed all aspects of the day, arranging round-trip transportation from the center of Athens to Schinias and ensuring the participants had everything required for a carefree experience by the sea. Guests were provided with beach towels, hats, slippers, and sunscreen. The day concluded with a hosted lunch at "O Paradeisos" tavern.
For the Club, community service extends far beyond material aid; it is defined by presence, genuine interest, and respect. The event aimed to create meaningful moments of joy, relaxation, and solidarity, reinforcing the message that no member of the community stands alone.
The event was attended by the President of the Rotary Club of Athinai Rot. Anastasios Ballas, the Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Pallini-Gerakas, Rot. Konstantina Korontzi, and Rotary Club of Athens member, Rot. Dimitris Karapistolis, accompanied by his wife.
Accompanying the vendors was Mr. Christos Alefantis, founder and journalist of "Shedia". The Rotary Club of Athens has developed a deeply impactful partnership with Mr. Alefantis, focusing on supporting the individuals behind the iconic "red vests" and preserving their dignity through continuous structural and social outreach.
This action serves as another practical expression of the Rotary Club of Athinai ongoing commitment to community support, demonstrating that true service lies in shared time, shared smiles, and an active human presence.
