A year from now, some children in Hisarönü may remember this summer as the time they discovered a new interest. In three years, one of them may write a first story, find the confidence to speak in front of others or lead a community activity. Ten years from now, the experiences shared at this camp may have grown into confidence, curiosity and a desire to contribute to their community.

This is the kind of long-term impact that Rotary Club Marmaris, District 2440, Türkiye, is helping to create through a free children’s summer camp in Hisarönü. The project is being delivered in partnership with Tazelenme University – Marmaris Campus and the Hisarönü Village Headman’s Office, which also serves as a Rotary Community Corps.

From 10 to 21 August, primary school children are being given the opportunity to learn, create and build friendships in a safe and supportive environment. The programme includes general knowledge, logic games, handicrafts, photography, health and nutrition, caring for pets and physical activities.

The value of the camp lies not only in the subjects being taught, but also in the way children are encouraged to explore them. They talk about books and poetry, begin writing their own poems and stories, take part in creative drama and discover science through engaging experiments. Outdoor activities help them build trust, connect with one another and experience the importance of belonging.

Rotary Club Marmaris demonstrates how a club can recognise a local need and respond with consistency, imagination and genuine human connection. Its work reminds us that lasting impact does not always begin with a large-scale project. Sometimes it starts with a few tables, a ball, a curious question and adults who believe that every child deserves the opportunity to discover their potential.
