2nd IZMIR SUN, FUN AND CULTURE CAMP
We held the second of the Short Term Youth Camp in Rotary District 2440, between 3-15 July 2023. Clubs involved in the organization of the camp; İzmir Rotary and İzmir Rotaract Club, Bodrum Rotary Club, Denizli Rotary Club.
This year, 6 participants from 6 different countries took part in our camp.
• Gilda Castellanos Von Borstel - [Mexico, District 4100, RC Tijuana Independencia]
• Patriarch Jorgenvag - [Hungary, District 1911, RC Szentendre]
• Lisa Maria Alberta Laumen - [France, District 1670, RC Villeneuve d'Ascq]
• Jan Noot - [The Netherlands, District 1610, RC Oosterhout Regio]
• Alida Maspes - [Italy, District 2042, RC Sondrio]
• Tzu Ting Huang - [R.O.C.(Taiwan), District 3490, RC Wu Ku]
Participants were hosted by Rotarians, Rotaractors or host families. They were hosted by 3 different families in 3 different cities and we tried to make them get to know Turkish culture well.
The enthusiasm of the camp and our campers increased day by day. There was a complete team spirit. Behavior and interest of young people towards each other and host families reached a very high level. Host families, on the other hand, were at the peak of Turkish hospitality from the very first minute. They took care of all campers as if they were their own children or siblings. Many thanks to each and every one of them. Without host families this camp would not have happened.
This year, we both enriched the content of our camp and made more qualified trips and promotions. At the same time, we created an environment for Turkish and foreign youth to spend longer time and increase activities. Denizli and Bodrum Rotary Clubs also developed their camp programs. With extraordinary effort, they created an unforgettable camping atmosphere.
The benefits of the youth camp;
1. It greatly increased the unity, solidarity and cooperation within the club. It was a lively, cheerful, extroverted project that touched people.
2. 6 young people who do not know much about Turkey now “know us”. We believe that they are real Turkish ambassadors anymore. We believe that when they hear the name of Turkiye, not only in their own country, but also in international platforms, they will feel warm and they have a lot to say.
3. This was not only a travel, entertainment and culture camp. It was a wonderful process that enabled cultural exchange, mutual understanding, being human beyond political problems, touching, feeling and being friends. It was very intense that everybody felt. As a result, when evaluated in general, it can be considered as a droplet contribution to world peace.
4. Short-term camps are useful. It helps us to introduce our country and our culture, and to give our messages with human warmth. We should organized more camps in numbers.
5. It is our biggest goal for the 2nd İzmir Sun, Fun and Culture Camp to become one of the traditional projects of İzmir Rotary Club. Bodrum and Denizli Rotary Club future Presidents expressed their positive thoughts for future.
I would like to thank to Rtn. Sabit Emre Limoncuoğlu - İzmir Rotary Club President, Rtc. Tansu Aydın - İzmir Rotaract Club President, Rtn. Erkan Saylam -Bodrum Rotary Club President, Rtn. Mustafa Özcan - Denizli Rotary Club President and the board of directors of all clubs.
Create Hope in the World with Rotary…
