A room in a girls’ orphanage in Istanbul will become warmer, safer and more welcoming because one summer evening brought Rotary friendship and solidarity together.
On 26 August, 14 Rotary clubs gathered at Feriye, one of Istanbul’s iconic venues, for a joint meeting and open-air cinema event. The screening of Selvi Boylum Al Yazmalım, one of the unforgettable works of Turkish cinema, created more than a beautiful night under the sky. It became a shared act of care for children who deserve comfort, security and hope.
The Taksim, Beyoğlu, Beylerbeyi, Dolmabahçe, Equal and Accessible Life, Göksu, Fenerbahçe, Give a Voice to Education, Barbaros Metropolitan, Breath for Women, Bebek, Fatih, Ömerli and Kız Kulesi Rotary Clubs opened their joint official meeting before the film screening.
The event was attended by District 2420 Governor Erden Gökmen, Past District Governor Müfit Ülke and his wife Sema Ülke, District Governor 2027–2028 Tolga Bostancı, Assistant Governors, District Officers, club presidents, Rotarians, spouses, supporters and guests.
The funds raised will be used to furnish a room in a girls’ orphanage in Istanbul. The aim is not only to provide furniture, but to help create a living space where girls can feel safe, cared for and able to look to the future with greater confidence.
The evening was also a powerful reminder of what Rotary can achieve when clubs work together. A film became a reason to gather. Fellowship became solidarity. And solidarity became practical support for young lives.
Oral Korurlar, President of Kız Kulesi Rotary Club, and Dilara Ödül, President of Ömerli Rotary Club, expressed their gratitude to the Rotary family, supporters and guests who joined the event and contributed to the project.
At Feriye, cinema, friendship and purpose came together in one meaningful night — showing that lasting impact can begin with a shared story, a shared table and a shared commitment to do good.
