With the brilliance that suits the occasion, RC Kerkyra awarded for the 35th consecutive year the students of the three Philharmonics of our city, who distinguished themselves in the respective internal competitions of their schools.
This year's awards were given to Melina Papaioannou (violin) and Kostas Sourvinos (percussion), students of the Corfu Philharmonic Society, to Cornelia Rouva (flute), student of the "Mantzaros" Philharmonic Society and to Michalis Kontis (percussion), student of the Philharmonic Union "Kapodistrias". Each award comes with a cash prize.
Present chief musicians, music teachers, presidents and representatives of the boards of philharmonics, the parents of the awardees and friends of Rotary.
The President of the Rotary Club Dimitris Ericsos, emphasized the importance of philharmonics in the development of bonds of friendship and cooperation between musicians, while praising their social role in the cultivation of fair play and musical excellence that has led countless Corfiot musicians to staff remarkable orchestras in Greece and abroad.
Speaker of the evening, past president Andreas Kalogeras, who presented the thoughts of the Emeritus Professor of the Ionian University, Mr. Nikos Papadimitriou on the wanderings of a modern Odysseus who recognizes his Ithaca on the island of the Phaeacians, to the sounds of the philharmonic orchestras.
